Portuguese packaged salads producer Vitacress, which turned over €40 million in 2022, of which 15% was for the export market, especially the UK and Spain, says it will expand to Odemira.

However, in an interview the company’s Managing Director, Carlos Vicente told Lusa that the Portuguese market is growing by such an extent that it has “become a priority for the group” but does have an ambition to “increase the export market”.
The company, which is part of he RAR Group, hopes to increase sales this year by 5% to 6% and has an expansion plan in the Odemira area where its operation is based.
“It consists of expanding our production area” he said by increasing investment (he did not divulge figures) in space and equipment.
The company has already invested around €700,000 over the past three years in measures to improve water consumption and autonomy, one of the main challenges faced by companies in the sector with Carlos Vicente accepting the water situation puts a “lot of pressure on the operation”.
Vitacress currently employs around 420 with plans to take on a further 20 staff to support the expansion plan.
