British interest in Portugal surges as the ‘MOVING TO PORTUGAL’ show returns

The highly anticipated ‘Moving to Portugal’ show returned to London last Thursday (October 19, 2023), garnering attention from individuals and businesses eager to explore opportunities in the Portuguese property market. Organised by the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in the UK, this one day event has now established itself as the UK’s premier and most significant event dedicated exclusively to the Portuguese property and investment markets.

With over 450 registered visitors, the event was a resounding success, as 17 exhibitors, many of them exhibiting at the show for the first time, talked to visitors and heard for themselves the growing interest in Portugal as a destination for living, investing, and doing business.
Statistics from the October event just released by the Chamber reinforce how significant it is that the Show provides attendees with the latest and most impartial information, particularly in view of the recent changes in Portugal in the Golden Visa and Non-Habitual Residents programmes.
Visitors told us their top reasons for attending the MTP October 2023 event were residency and visas (54.5%), tax (46.6%), housing prices (42.2%), and investment opportunities (37.8%).
This surge in interest in legal and tax-related matters, when compared to the October 2022 MTP Show, shows how necessary such an event is when the market is rapidly changing. Furthermore the recent statistics show that British buyers are looking to move faster than ever before, with 37.0% of individuals planning to move to Portugal in less than one year in October 2023, compared with 33.6% in October 2022.
Looking ahead into 2024, the ‘Moving to Portugal’ Shows are set to expand, with three events already scheduled, including one in Dublin in early 2024 and two in London – in March 2024 and October 2024. Given the increasing interest in Portugal as a destination for investment, residency and visas, as well as lifestyle and property, the 2024 London events will include more exhibitors from the investment sector, under the Portugal Investment Forum banner.
