Costa to continue to lead government until elections

The Governor of the Bank of Portugal, Mário Centeno, was to have been proposed to lead the ruling PS party caretaker government until the general election on 10 March.

Now, current Prime Minister, António Costa will lead the government until then according to Portuguese media reports.
Yesterday, it had been reported that António Costa would remain in his post as prime minister until the elections in March, a decision discussed at a meeting of the PS party leadership on Thursday evening.
This was because the Mário Centeno suggestion has not been accepted by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa because Mário Centeno is not a PS party member, and was never elected as a PS parliamentary deputy.
António Costa said that he might consider sacking the Minister of Infrastructure, João Galamba who is one of the political figures at the centre of the scandal, and who had been taken into police custody on Tuesday morning for police quizzing, but Costa said he would have to speak first to the president on the matter, a discussion scheduled for Wednesday.
