Barcelo Group ‘Best Hotel Management Company in the World’

The Spanish hotel group Barceló has been awarded the ‘Best Hotel Management Company in the World’ at the World Travel Awards 2023.

The hotel chain, which had won this award in the 2019 and 2021 editions, has around 280 hotels in 30 countries.
Portugal won 25 awards in the WTA 2023 in September including the best destination in Europe. Porto was the Best City-Break Destination in Europe while the Algarve was considered the Best Beach Destination in Europe.
The World Travel Awards has been called into question as a truly independent competition since nomination fees have to be paid. “It is as though the awards do not seek to recognise the best agencies rather the agencies that are able to pay them nearly €700. The world Travel awards nominations list is always short. This is not because they have shortlisted nominees but it is simply because those were the companies or entities who were willing to pay them nearly €350 or €450 plus around €350 for advertising”, explains the Kampala News.
In other words, World Travel Awards has presented itself as a brand that endorses Travel brands through receiving payments that accounted for as though they are nomination fees. “If you are looking for the best agency in a given country, World Travel Awards would not be the place to find that company. This does not imply that they endorse fake companies, rather they do not present you with all the best agencies a given destination has to offer”, the publication concludes.
The Barceló Hotel Group is one of the 10 strongest brands in the world according to the latest global evaluation hotels report from Brand Finance.
The World Travel Awards, considered the Oscars of the international tourism industry, celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and recognises excellence in tourism activity in over 100 categories.
The award was joined to other awards won in 2023 by the group for five hotel establishments owned by the group in Spain: Royal Hideaway Corales Resort (Best Luxury Villa in Spain in 2023, Barceló Lanzarote Active Resort (Best Sport Resort in 2023), the Barceló Fuereventura Beach Resort (Best Beach Resort in Spain in 2023), and the Barceló Isla Canela (Best All-Included Resort in Spain in 2023).
In Portugal the company has two hotel units – the Allegro Madeira hotel and Barceló Funchal Oldtown Hotel also in Madeira.
