There was a strong growth in visitor numbers and exhibitors at the 27 edition of the Lisbon Property Fair (SIL – Salão Imobiliário de Portugal) which ran from May 2-5.

Organised by the AIP Foundation and held at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa complex at Lisbon’s Parque das Nações, the property fair was held at the same time as Tektónica, the largest fair in Portugal devoted to the construction and home improvements industry.

The two events occupied 35,000m2 of exhibition and the FIL Meeting Centre which together posted an increase in visitors, exceeding 25,500 and over 500 exhibitors.

Sérgio Runa, SIL manager pointed out that the event was a meeting point from all players in the market: investors, entrepreneurs, and potential buyers from the public, and was a vital space to discuss business.

Some 83% of the professional visitors and 40% of the public said that they had identified business opportunities over the four days of the fair.

SIL also provided a space for networking and debates on the hot topics of the day, particularly Portugal’s glaring housing crisis caused, in part by a lack of new build for the middle classes since the 1980s and early 1990s.

Of particular interest was the CNN Summit – Portugal Habita such as Portugal’s national housing policy, urban rehabilitation, the future of the real estate market, public housing policies, and the key role of municipal councils.

The SIL Investment Pro conference powered by the Portuguese Association of Real Estate Professionals and Investors (APPI) focused on topics that were equally crucial such as artificial intelligence used in real estate and new sustainable and energy efficient building techniques.
