CS Wind, the largest manufacturer of eolic wind turbine towers in the world, is to build a new factory in Aveiro in a €300 million investment which will create around 1,000 jobs according to the online news source ECO.

The two plots of land needed to build the factory are to be leased from the Port of Aveiro authorities. The factory will be used to manufacture offshore floating foundations for wind turbines and will be the fourth such factory in Portugal from the company that already employs 1,200.

The new factory will be build on two parcels of land covering a total of 121,362m2 which run adjacent to the company’s current premises at the Port of Aveiro’s Logistics and Industrial Activities Zone (ZALI) where two industrial units are currently manufacturing equipment for the production of eolic offshore energy.

CS Wind Portugal competed in a public competition launched in February with the investment depending on the output required for national programmes and objectives in terms of GW, with an investment of between €200-€300 million.

This will be the 4th factory from the multinational operating in Portugal, CS Wind taking control of ASM Industries which is the market leader in producing eolic towers after having bought the 40% share that was in the hands of Adelino da Costa Matos who left his position as the company’s CEO.

In 2021, WAM Investments, controlled by the son of the industrial metallurgy entrepreneur Adelino da Silva Matos had sold a 60% share in the Aveiro company for €46.5 million.
