The Portuguese government will more than double the public offer of housing, compared to plans from the previous socialist government led by António Costa, on the back of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), Expresso reports this Friday.

According to the weekly newspaper, which quotes the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, instead of the 26,000 houses promised by the previous government, to be completed by 2026, 58,993 will be built, but by 2030.

These 26,000 are already contracted, but only 2,000 have been delivered, and approximately 10,000 will not meet the deadlines to benefit from RRP support, so they will be withdrawn from the programme and be replaced by others that are projected for.

To this €1.4Bn, the government led by Luís Montenegro undertakes to add €2.8Bn from the State Budget, bringing the total investment in public housing to €4.2Bn, “certainly the largest amount in the last 30 years in Portugal,” says Miguel Pinto Luz.
