Tourism revenues up 7% in July
Total tourism revenues reached €803 million in July, and income from accommodation increased by 7.7% to €640.4 million, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Room bookings increased by 1.5% to 3.2 million, and overnight stays rose 2.1% to nine million.
“The average income per available room (RevPAR) stood at €96.4 ( 5.4%) and the average income per occupied room (ADR) stood €144.9 ( 6.1%). ADR again reached the highest values in the Algarve (€181.5 euros) and Greater Lisbon (€160.8 euros),” said the statistics institute.
The INE added that the municipality of Lisbon “concentrated 16.2% of the total overnight stays (7.4% of the total overnight stays of residents and 20.0% of non-residents), registering an increase of 3% ( 1% in residents and 3.3% in non-residents)”.
The data also indicates that among the municipalities with the highest number of overnight stays in July, Portimão (4.5% of total overnight stays) stood out with the “highest growth ( 10.9%), to which the positive developments in overnight stays of residents ( 3%) and, above all, those of non-residents ( 15.5%) contributed”.
If we take into account general accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday colonies and youth hostels), “3.6 million guests and 10.3 million overnight stays were registered in July, reflecting growth of 0.9% and 1.6%. Overnight stays of residents decreased by 2.9% and those of non-residents grew by 4.2%,” said the statistics institute.
Through July, overnight stays grew 4.1% to 44.5 million, and total room income increased 11.1% . “This increase was mainly due to the overnight stays of non-residents, which grew by 5.5%, while those of residents registered a more modest growth ( 0.6%),” stated the INE.
