Open-air hospitality operator wecamp has announced its expansion into the Portuguese market with the acquisition of two premium assets: Reserva Alecrim, and São Miguel, both in Odeceixe.

Together, these properties span over 21 hectares and feature approximately 300 accommodation units. The resorts, now owned by alternative investment manager Meridia, will be rebranded and operated under the wecamp brand.

Through a targeted capex program aimed at enhancing asset quality and improving the guest experience, Meridia and wecamp plan to expand the resorts as they elevate operations across both properties with a premium and sustainable approach. “This strategy aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly, nature-focused tourism, offering guests a modern yet nature-centered experience,” says Meridia in a press statement.

The acquisition of these two assets significantly strengthens the platform presence in the Iberian market and marks a start of its international expansion. Iberia’s unique location and offerings have already made it one of the top glamping destinations in Europe.

Meridia launched the sustainable open air hospitality platform in 2020 in partnership with wecamp, the operating entity. Meridia owns the sites and a majority stake in wecamp. This collaboration follows an aggregation strategy that has helped position the company as a leading player in Spain and Portugal. Together, they are contributing to the professionalization of an underinvested and highly fragmented sector.

Victor Iborra, Partner at Meridia and Board Member at wecamp, commented: “Portugal is a key market for open-air hospitality in Europe, and these acquisitions represent a major step forward in our strategy to grow and consolidate our platform. Their prime location and unique offerings will serve as a cornerstone for our presence in the region. We’re confident in the long-term potential of this market and are actively exploring additional opportunities to grow and diversify our portfolio in Portugal.”
