Construction works on new Lisbon hospital start Monday
Work on the new Lisbon Todos os Santos hospital will begin on Monday. (October 7)
The announcement was made by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, on Thursday during the twice-weekly debate in parliament.
The construction and concession of the capital’s future hospital was won by the Mota Engil consortium, which had, however, to make changes to the project to accommodate seismic isolation, as required by the Court of Auditors in the granting of a licence prior to the contract, which resulted in an estimated extra cost of about €99 million.
This new health sector PPP (Public-Private Partnership) will cost the State about €732 million, taking into account that it includes the design, construction, financing, conservation and maintenance for the facility which will be up and running by 2027.
In August an order signed by the Prime Minister authorising the purchase of five more plots of land from the Lisbon City Council, to the amount of €4.7 million, needed for the project.
The new unit, which has experienced successive delays, will replace six hospitals in the capital and will have a capacity of 875 beds.
