The Governor of the Bank of Portugal, Mário Centeno has not ruled out running for the presidency of Portugal in January, 2026.

In an interview with celebrity CNN business journalist, Richard Quest, who has headed the popular and long-standing show ‘Quest means Business’ for the new channel, asked the Governor of the Bank of Portugal if he was planning to run for president from 2025.

Mário Centeno replied: “Well, you know changes happen, sometimes they are unexpected, sometimes they are expected, and changes occurred in my life over the last 10 years and some of them were not expected as I was on a different path.”

“I don’t fear change, but I am really focused on my job today, and I honestly don’t think about that (running for president).

Richard Quest interviewed Mário Centeno at the CNN Portugal International Summit in Lisbon on Monday.
