Last year was a positive one for investors in shares and investment funds in Portugal who invested more money than they took out, with assets under management in investment funds up by €2.1Bn.

Despite US shares enjoying a better performance, more conservative funds attracted more investment reports the business daily Negócios.
“Portugal’s investment funds enjoyed a growth of 11.5% in 2024 to €20.8Bn, the highest since May 2008.

“This performance is down, on the one hand to an increase in value of the assets held that translated into a positive yield in 2024 for almost all entities and asset classes, and on the other hand the confidence that national investors and savers have placed in them,” (funds) says João Pratas, President of the Portuguese Association of Investment Funds, Pensions and Patrimony.(APFIPP)

Data held by the association shows that the value of assets under management reached €20.8Bn at the end of December 2024. In December 2023 that figure stood at €18.6Bn.

Around half of the growth came from new savings since by subtracting the €3.66Bn of cash-ins, there was €4.85Bn worth of investments posted in 2024 – a net positive balance of €1.2Bn.
