Portuguese companies expect a 4.6% increase in exports of goods this year.

The forecast is based on the uptick in exports registered between January and November 2024 when overseas sales grew by 3%.

It is also based on the results on an inquiry on the outlook for exports for this year released by Portugal’s National Statistics Institute released on Tuesday.

This revealed a greater than expected increase in exports of transport material and accessories. (7.2%) and industrial supplies. (+6.9%)

Conducted in November with 3,068 companies (response rate of 96%), corresponding to about 85% of exports of goods in 2023, it is a first forecast for the expected evolution of sales abroad in 2025.

Conducted precisely in the month that Donald Trump won the US elections with threats to increase tariffs, warns INE, it may “reflect, to a high degree, uncertainty regarding developments on the international scene”.
