Rock in Rio had €120 million impact in 2024

The rock and pop festival Rock in Rio (RiR) will have generated an impact of the equivalent of €120 million for Portugal’s economy and represents €11.8 million in tax revenues (VAT and IRS).

This is according to data are from a study by Nova SBE presented on Tuesday – the day on which the 2026 edition kicked off – scheduled for the 20, 21, 27 and 28 of June, again at Parque Tejo in Lisbon.

Calculating the direct effect – which includes the expenses of the event, sponsors and the public –, the indirect effect – which reflects the economic result of the activity generated by the companies that supply the goods and services in the value chain that supplies the economic activities related to the festival – and the induced effect – which reflects the economic impact of the increase in the national consumption of goods and services by the labour factor, resulting from the growth in income generated by direct and indirect impacts – these are the numbers of the festival that is in its 10th edition, and according to the organization, brought together 300,000 people over four days and 14,000 accredited invitees and journalists per day, coming from 106 countries.

“It is estimated that the equivalent of 2,000 full-time jobs and €28 million in revenues and salaries have been created”, of which €3.8 million went to IRS, the study also says.
