Construction on Lufthansa Technik factory to start in the summer
Lufthansa Technik, the German group’s aircraft maintenance company, expects to get the environmental green light soon to move forward on the construction of its factory in Santa Maria da Feira, in an investment of €309 million that will create 526 jobs by 2030.
Lufthansa has offered a second project – a pilots school – to be set up in Portugal with the Portuguese Air Force having been approached, but no follow-up has been made to date.
The public consultation phase on an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) ended on February 5th and the assessment report is now under analysis.
Lufthansa Technik expects a positive decision. “We are optimistic that the environmental assessment will be granted approval soon,” said an official source from the German group when asked by the online news sources ECO/eRadar.
“We are close to completing the administrative procedure”, stated the same source, adding that they hope to “start construction in the summer”.
