Redundant offices once occupied by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in Barcarena, near Lisbon, have been sold to Oeiras International School (OIS.

The property consultants Dils advised on the sale of the former AstraZeneca offices in Barcarena to OIS which was seeking a new space as part of the development of its educational project.

Located on a plot of approximately 13,000 m², the building has approximately 4,300 m² of gross construction area (GCA).

AstraZeneca, which recently transferred its operational headquarters to Parque das Nações after more than 25 years in Barcarena, contacted Dils to find a buyer for the property.

Through a holistic approach, Dils assessed the asset’s potential beyond its original use, exploring different possible typologies and uses in alternative sectors such as education, health, or senior living. The property was ultimately acquired by OIS, which considered it suitable for the development of its educational project.

The opening of the new campus is planned for the next academic year and will be dedicated exclusively to the more advanced years of the academic programme.

Similar to the current facilities, this new campus will feature ample outdoor areas and a strong sustainability component, with solutions that promote energy efficiency and connection to nature. The expectation is to gradually accommodate the growth of the school community to 2030.
