Portuguese company Hyperion Renewables has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Repsol, securing approximately 140,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually for the Spanish oil company for a decade, starting in 2028.

The agreement covers about 76% of the projected production of each of the two projects located in the Évora district: a photovoltaic solar power plant in Estremoz and a wind farm in Sousel.

The combination of these two technologies contributes to greater stability in the supply of electricity from renewable energy sources.

The supply will begin in 2028 and will continue for 10 years. In total, the two assets should deliver approximately 140,000 MWh of renewable energy per year to Repsol, avoiding the annual emission of more than 23,000 tons of CO₂. From another perspective, this volume corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 40,000 homes.

Aytea Alvarez Amandi, CEO of Hyperion Renewables, states: “This agreement marks an important moment for Hyperion Renewables and for our country.

By structuring a PPA that combines solar and wind production, we are taking a concrete step towards creating more efficient, predictable renewable solutions aligned with the decarbonisation needs of companies.

In a context where Europe is accelerating its carbon neutrality targets, we believe that hybrid projects will play an increasingly relevant role in the energy transition, due to their ability to optimize resources, increase production complementarity, and offer greater stability to consumers.”

With this agreement, Hyperion Renewables reinforces its contribution to the diversification of renewable energy production in Portugal and to the development of innovative contractual models that bring producers and consumers closer together in a competitive and long-term renewable energy logic.
