Portugal’s transport and electrical systems company Efacec has won its largest contract ever to develop and supply solutions for Lisbon’s metro red line extension.

The company, acquired by the German fund Mutares from the Portuguese State, will develop and work on traction energy, low voltage, SSIT, CCTV and ventilation systems for the new stretch between São Sebastião metro stop and the extension to Alcântara.

The project, which will be worth €322 million to the company, will be overseen by the construction company awarded the works, Mota-Engil.

Mutares purchased the company in November 2023 and since then has doubled its revenues to €300 million from the €150 million posted for 2023, and expects to achieve a positive EBITDA for 2025.

“The newly-awarded contract, the largest that Efacec has ever had in the rail and metro sector in Portugal, shows national market confidence in the quality of the engineering from this Portuguese company”, stated the company on Thursday, May 15 in a communiqué.
