Metal Portugal (AIMMAP – Associação dos Industriais Metalúrgicos, Metalomecânicos e Afins de Portugal) a business association that represents metal manufacturing industries in the country, said today that the General Strike on Thursday saw only “residual” adhesion from workers, with an initial estimate suggesting only 2% downed tools.

AIMMAP points to another factor that unequivocally showed that the strike was insignificant according to Rafael Campos Pereira, Executive Vice-President of AIMMAP, who said feedback from companies showed there was not a single adherence to the strike in more than 95% of Metal Portugal companies.

It was also started that the number of companies that didn’t join the stoppage was “even higher compared to previous strikes”.

The conclusion was reached after Metals Portugal directly contacted over 300 companies that are members of the AIMMAP with the samples deemed “reliable and absolutely credible”.
