Santander profits up 60% in first quarter
Banco Santander reported profits of €5.455Bn in the first quarter of the year, 60% more than in the same months of 2025, the Spanish financial group announced on Wednesday.
Portugal contributed €250 million, according to information released to the Spanish market. In a statement, Santander Portugal reveals that the net result for the first three months of the year was €242.4 million, a decrease of 9.8% year-on-year. The difference in figures is explained by accounting issues.
These results include an extraordinary impact resulting from the completion of the sale, in January, of Santander Bank Plska, the bank’s Polish subsidiary, a transaction that resulted in a capital gain of €1.895Bn.
Without the impact of this operation, Santander’s ordinary (comparable) profits in the first quarter of the year rose 12%, compared with the same period in 2025, to a “record €3,560 million”, the bank announced in a statement.
