The Swiss jewellery group FM Industries Sycrilor which produces jewellery for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Dior, Cartier and Tiffany, has opened a factory in Covilhã.

The project, which also has factories in Switzerland, France and Morocco, will create 90 jobs.

The Mayor of Covilhã Vítor Pereira said that the company was one of the “greatest international specialists in making high-quality, high-precision jewellery products” and that the new factory represented one of the first companies attracted to Covilhã because of its new precision mechanics industry cluster at Canhoso Industrial Park.”

With 30 years of experience, FM Industries Sycrilor makes jewels for Hermès and Louis Vuitton, ballpoints for Mont-Blanc and watches for Tiffany.

The Swiss multinational Mulitcuirs is also investing in Portugal by opening a watch strap factory at Lusopark in Santa Maria da Feira.

Mulitcuirs is behind the investment project Relprod in Santa Maria da Feira where it will manufacture leather watch straps for international luxury brand time pieces.

In May the company will begin a complimentary activity: “polissage”  (polishing) metal straps and watch boxes.

Emídio Sousa, Mayor of Santa Maria da Feira, accompanied the CEO of Mulitcuirs, Sylvan Wenger to Relprod’s premises at Lusopark where a purpose-built 16,000m2 factory will be installed and initially employ 65.

“I’m naturally very happy that this investment project has become a reality, it will bring more jobs, professional training and economic development to Portugal,” he said.
