Sales of Science4you toys soar 60% in 2017
Sales of Portuguese educational toys manufacturer Science4you soared 60% to €27 million in 2017. The company that began as a startup sells its toys in 40 countries worldwide. Global sales represent 70% of total turnover.
Science4you, founded by Miguel Pina Martins 10 years ago, enjoyed a 66% turnover greater than 2016. In 2017 consolidated sales totalled €21 million.
“Our journey these last 10 tears was the result of a lot of team dedication whereby we built a company that’s 100% Portuguese and clearly aimed at the export market. It brings science to children all over the world and it’s something we’re extremely proud of,” says Miguel Pina Martins.
The company’s success is selling its toys in Target, one of the largest United States toy retail chains with 1,800 shops, was vital for its results as was a €10 million investment from the European Investment Bank to help the business expand.
Portugal continues to be an important market for the toys, (currently 30% of sales) but Science4you also enjoys robust turnover in Spain, UK, Poland and the United States. Last year the company expanded its factory at Mercado Abastecedor da Região de Lisboa (MARL) – A wholesale market and light industry manufacturing hub – by 14,000m2.
