Amorim family tops Forbes list of richest figures in Portugal

The Amorim family has topped the list of the wealthiest figures in Portugal with a fortune valued at €4.5Bn.

Maria Fernanda Amorim, widow of the deceased Américo Amorim is in first place with assets such as Galp Energia and cork giant Corticeira Amorim, both listed on the Lisbon stick exchange.

Alexandre Soares dos Santos and family come in second place (€3.4Bn with assets such as Jerónimo Martins, owner of the Pingo Doce supermarket chain.) Vítor Manuel da Silva Ribeiro comes in third place with €1.4Bn.

In fourth place is the Vasco de Mello family with 61 assets such as Bondalti, Brisa and José Mello Saúde with a fortune valued at €1.17Bn. Pedro Mendonça de Queiroz Pereira has €1.1Bn with assets in the paper and hotel industries (Semapa, Secil, Navigator and Hotel Ritz).

Manuel Violas and Rita Violas e Sá (6th) worth €889M with assets Super Bock, Solverde hotels and casinos, Clip college and Cotesi.

In the fashion sector, José Neves of Farfetch comes in at 9th place. Neves (€689M) founded the first Portuguese “unicorn,” a company in the luxury sector with headquarters based in London. 

Fernando Jorge Pinho Teixeira is in 10th place (€612M) with the asset Ferpinta (steel tubes).
