Great Hotels of the World, a brand specialising in various hotel sector segments, and with a presence in 16 countries with a network of 61 hotels, is to move its headquarters from London to Portugal.

The transfer will also be used by the group as an opportunity to relaunch its brand worldwide after receiving a considerable cash injection that could be worth over €1 million from venture capital company Portugal Ventures.

“The brand intends to increase the revenues of its associate members that form part of Great Hotels of the World by encouraging four and five-star hotel units with conference facilities, Spas and wellness centres to join the group.

Great Hotels of the World provides independent hotels with international sales and marketing expertise, the latest digital technology and valuable, long-term business relationships.

Portugal Ventures has boosted its investment in tourism by investing €2 million in two startups linked to the sector – Great Hotels of the World and Live Electric Tours.

The venture capital entity states, “These two investments represent a new phase for Portugal Ventures in investing in tourism projects and which are not necessarily technology based, but bring the market innovative products and services, with added value for the tourism experience and in line with the Tourism Strategy for 2027” says Pedro de Mello Breyner, Executive Board member of Portugal Ventures whose area of focus is investments in tourism.

The investment in these two startups comes at a time in which Portugal Ventures is preparing to launch an initiative “Call for Tourism” in October which aims to “identify future investment opportunities in projects in the tourism area.”

“Call for Tourism” will facilitate access to venture capital investment for projects that contribute to the development of tourism products in the country, improve the tourism experience and the sector’s efficiency”, adds the venture capital company.

Live Electric Tours is a startup which has invested in a new way of seeing cities through the experience of self drive with 100% electric vehicles and with pre-set tours which can also be tailor-made for the ultimate personalised tour experience.
