Farfetch to launch Harrods online shopping platform

One of Portugal’s most successful unicorns has joined forces with arguably the most famous department store in the world – Harrods – to develop the Knightsbridge store’s global online fashion shopping site.

Farfetch, currently a platform leader in online luxury fashion shopping, will launch the platform for Harrods in 2020.

Although the famous store founded in 1834 does have an online site to sell its products worldwide, the site is limited in its reach.

Which is why it has made a partnership with Farfetch founded by José Neves in 2007 and which will be responsible for creating the global online shopping platform for the iconic store.

“Our experience in constructing technology platforms for luxury brands means that Harrods’ online merchandise will be presented in a way that will be equally exciting as in the shop itself” says José Neves.

Harrods will use the Farfetch Black & White service which includes e-commerce management, technical support and international logistics support, but also enables brands to interact with consumers: the British store will continue to be responsible for on-site purchases, marketing, sales relations, product strategy, creative and editorial content and customer service support.

Michael Ward, Managing-Director of Harrods says that the aim of this exclusive partnership is to ensure “that Harrods customers have exactly the same exemplary service, whether online or at the actual shop”.

Kelly Kowal, who heads Farfetch’s business area says that Farfetch Black & White will put into practice “all its experience in complex logistical and technical issues so that Harrods customers can have the very best luxury digital experience possible.”

Farfetch is an online luxury fashion retail platform that sells products from over 700 boutiques and brands from around the world.

The company was founded in 2007 by the Portuguese entrepreneur José Neves with its headquarters in London and main branches in Porto, Guimarães, Braga, Lisbon, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai Hong Kong, São Paulo and Dubai.
