DHL Express opens first own shop in Lisbon

Multinational courier and parcels service DHL has opened its first physical store in Lisbon.

The DHL Express Store, in the city’s Areeiro district, is the result of the company’s growth strategy in the Portuguese market.
Located close to the centre of Lisbon and even closer to the airport (Avenida Padre Manuel da Nóbrega), the new DHL Express shop aims to make the service and even more convenient and faster, both nationally and internationally.
The company also expects to open up similar stores in the Algarve and Porto by the end of the year.
At the same time, FedEx has joined TNT services in Portugal after the US DHL competitor bought the Dutch TNT operations for €4.4Bn in 2016 in an expansion strategy in Europe that involves Portugal.
The CEO of FedEx, Frederick Smith said at the time that the merger was “a strategic acquisition that would add value to the US company and that the transition period would enable the company to: “take advantage of international trends.”
As to the DHL store, it will be open daily from 9am to 7pm and customers can send parcels of up to 30KG with dimensions that do not exceed 55x45x40 cm.
