One of the largest real estate projects in the Portuguese shopping centre segment in the past decade opens its doors tomorrow.

The Glicínias Plaza in Aveiro was subject to a €40 million revamp and modernisation which was done to coincide with the shopping centre’s 22nd anniversary on 6 November. The centre has totally revamped first and second floors and parking levels.
Despite the pandemic, all the work was completed to schedule with the mall now having 60 new shops in a project executed by Broadway Malyan. The facelift featured the complete overhaul of the building and its expansion to 13,000m2 with a Gross Let-able Area (GLA) of 41,000m2 and 120 new shop units making it the largest shopping centre in the region.
Glcínias has signed contracts with GMS Store, Cortefiel, Tiger, Rituals, New Yorker, Stone by Stone and Vilanova and boosted its offer with KFC, Benetton, Lefties, Cavalinho, Sportzone, Springfield, Swarovski, Women’s Secret, Worten, Zippy and Salsa among others. The majority of these brands will open their stores on Thursday with the others shortly afterwards.
The food court will feature KFC, Taco Bell, Italian Republic and Poke Bowls which are new brands to Aveiro, as well as H3, A Gula do Prego, Alicarius and Croissantaria Oita.
The NOS cinemas will open in the first quarter of 2022 with new screening rooms featuring the latest technology.
Glicínias will have 2,000 free parking spaces and can cater to a footfall of 30,000 visitors per day. Work also included revamping all of the pedestrian and road accesses to the shopping centre and the widening of the adjacent Avenida Europa. The refurbished shopping centre will also provide additional jobs for 500 in addition to indirect jobs unaccounted for.
Glicínias Plaza is managed by LBM which also manages Foz Plaza in Figueira da Foz, spaces that also belong to Grupo Vougainvest, a specialist shopping centre investment company.
