Sonae and Jerónimo Martins among largest family businesses in the world

Food retailer Jerónimo Martins and multinational and multi-sector company Sonae are among the 500 largest family owned companies in the world.

They were the only Portuguese companies to make the list compiled by the University of St. Gallen and consultancy Ernst & Young (EY).
Jerónimo Martins, the owner of the Pingo Doce supermarkets is in the top 100 at 69th position, while Sonae which owns the Continente supermarket chain comes in at 231.
