Lisbon’s foreign community swells to 118,947

There are now nearly 119,000 overseas nationals living in Portugal’s capital as its popularity as the go-to relocation destination shows no sign of abating.

The news comes as directors from Portugal’s borders and immigration force SEF met with Lisbon City Council officers on Monday at the request of City Hall to clarify the scope of SEF’s areas of action in the monitoring and controlling of overseas citizens on Portuguese territory, exchanging statistical information on the overseas resident population in Lisbon and joint SEF-Lisbon City Council strategies.
As a result of this meeting, SEF revealed on its Facebook Page that at the end of 2022 there were 118,947 overseas residents living in the capital, the majority from Brazil, (22,080), Italy (9,391), France (9,033), Nepal (8,875) and Bangladesh (8,467).
