TAP payout to David Neeleman: Where are the documents?
Government lacked documents showing the calculations to justify €55 million payment to David Neeleman
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing, run by Miguel Pinto Luz, has stated that it does not have “studies or information” to support how a payment of €55 million paid by the Portuguese State to airline mogul David Neeleman to exit TAP in 2020, was worked out.
This is according to online news source ECO, which quotes a response from the ministry to questions from PSD MPs on the report into the airline’s accounts.
According to the new source, there are also “no documents on the services provided” by the consultant BCG for the airline’s restructuring plan.
The PSD MPs asked for studies or supporting information to support the high amount paid to the consortium Atlantic Gateway during the re-nationalisation process, and communication between the ministry at the time run by Pedro Nuno Santos, Parpública, TAP SA, TAP SGPS and the General Directorate of Treasury and Finance.
In the same reply, the ministry, now led by Miguel Pinto Luz, also says that the General Inspectorate of Finance did not request from the office the documentation related to the €12 million paid to the consultant BCG to prepare the restructuring plan.
Furthermore, the ministry states that “it did not find any documents related to services provided by BCG to TAP”.
