Italian economist appointed Vice-President of Portugal’s Council of Public Finances

Italian professor and economist Lorenzo Forni was appointed this Thursday as vice-president of the Public Finance Council, according to the resolution of the Council of Ministers.

Lorenzo Forni is a professor of Economics at the University of Padua and chief economist at Prometeia Associazione, having worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank of Italy.

Patrícia Semião was also appointed to the position of executive member of the superior council of this independent body that oversees compliance with fiscal rules in Portugal and the sustainability of public finances.

Created in 2012, the Council for Public Finances has been led by Nazaré da Costa Cabral since March, 2019.

It is an independent public spending watchdog that ensures that budget rules and regulations are met and advises the government on maintaining sustainable public finances.
