Investment in public works contracts hits record
According to the “Barometer of Public Works” published by the Association of Construction and Public Works Industrialists (AICCOPN), the amount of public works contracts jumped from €6.048Bn in 2023 to €8.376Bn in 2024, setting a new record since the beginning of the series in 2011.
Public works tenders promoted in 2024 registered a significant increase of 39%, totaling €8.376Bn, while the value of contracts entered into grew 32%, reaching €4.891Bn. These numbers mark new all-time highs, as released today.
According to the ‘Barometer of Public Works’ from the Associação dos Industriais da Construção Civil e Obras Públicas (AICCOPN), the value of competitive tenders for public works jumped from €6.048Bn in 2023 to €8.376Bn em 2024, establishing a new record since records began in 2011.
With regard to the contracts signed, the total of €4.891Bn represents an increase of 32% compared to the previous year, also reflecting a new historical high in the series started in 2011. Analysing by type, works contracts resulting from public tenders totalled €4.059Bn in 2024, with a year-on-year growth of 40%.
AICCOPN points out that “this amount reveals a differential of €4.317Bn between the amount of the works tenders launched and the contracts effectively entered into since January”. In addition, public works contracts that were concluded through direct award and prior consultations also showed a positive performance, with an increase of 15%, totaling €639 million.
