Financial star of Wall Street appointed MD of Morgan Stanley

Portuguese asset manager Domitília dos Santos, who has spent 40 years managing fortunes at various asset management companies, including Morgan Stanley where she has been since 2010, has been promoted to lead the US financial management giant as its managing director.

Originally from Faro, she will add this role to other positions she holds at the financial institution such as director of portfolio management and international advisor to Morgan Stanley clients.

“She is responsible for managing the assets of small institutional investors as well as for high financial wealth clients” states the asset manager’s profile on the Morgan Stanley website.

Among the services Domitília dos Santos will oversee at Morgan Stanley are: wealth management, financial planning, retirement planning, education funding planning, professional portfolio management, asset management, cash management and lending products, estate planning straggles, trust accounts and executive financial services, among others.

The asset manager’s full titles are: Managing Director, Wealth Management, Financial Advisor, International Client Advisor, Senior Portfolio Management Director, Senior Investment Management Consultant, Financial Planning Specialist, Family Wealth Advisor, Workplace Advisor – Equity Compensation.

She also serves as a mediator and auditor for the National Association of Security Dealers (NASD) and for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as well as giving lectures at various universities, including Católica University, Lisbon.

In February 2023 Domitília dos Santos became a member of Morgan Stanley’s prestigious ‘President’s Club’, an elite group consisting of top financial consultants.

To be elected to become a member of this prestigious club, members of the bank have to “meet a a number of criteria including performance, conduct rules, revenues, experience and assets under supervision.

In Portugal she is a paid-up member of the International Club of Portugal which for the past 20 years has been a business platform with a wide array of high-calibre Portuguese speakers from the world of politics, economics, banking, entertainment, and business.

Domitília dos Santos is also a long-standing member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Portugal (AmCham).

Domitília dos Santos has a degree in political science and history from Drew University and in law from Rutgers School of Law. She also studied EU law and economics at the London School of Economics.

Her curriculum includes stints at Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley which she joined in 2010.

In 2003 she was decorated with the Order of Merit by the then Portuguese President, Jorge Sampaio.

Over the past 15 years she has regularly attended Barron’s annual Top Financial Advisor Conference where she has been a guest speaker.

In the field of sports, she is a marathon runner having completed 300 marathons in 165 countries and in all of the States of the US. Domitília dos Santos has been a member of the board of the Portuguese Diaspora since 2013.
