Hotel Mundial in €20 million facelift
PHC Hotels invested €20 million last year on renovating the Hotel Mundial building in Martim Moniz, Lisbon.
The Operations Manager for the PHC Hotels Group, Miguel Andrade announced on Tuesday that the Hotel Mundial had a occupation rate of 83% in 2024 while refurbishment works were going on to the lobby and bar area.
Miguel Andrade also said that they will renovate the first floor of the hotel for meetings and corporate events in a bid to enter the lucrative market by offering eight meeting rooms.
According to the director, high energy prices meant that the hotel had to implement cost containment measures, however, the group has still faced an increase of around 10% on energy bills.
The group has around 450 staff and has started a training program in partnership with Universidade Nova de Lisboa to offer training. The group admits to having a staff churn rate of 33%.
Miguel Andrade emphasised that none of its staff were “receiving the national minimum wage” at the Hotel Mundial. The director also touched on the issue of artificial intelligence (AI), admitting that it cannot replace the work of hotel professionals.
