Lisbon City Council has been ordered to pay out €40 million in compensation to private companies related to legal cases dating back to the 1990s.

These cases refer to urban decisions. In one of the cases, the council will pay €19.6 million to the heirs of plots of land where the Alvalade XXI complex was built. The other case has to do with works in Chelas that are disputed by companies like the supermarket chain Pingo Doce and the construction firm Alves Ribeiro. Here the compensation is €17.3 million.

A court judge ruled in favour of the complainants for contractual non-compliance on the part of the city council.
