Darty acquires 11 Staples stores in Portugal

Darty, the French holding that owns retail stores Fnac and MediaMarkt has reached an agreement to buy the 11 Staples Portugal stationery stores in the country.

The acquisitions from the conglomerate come after having acquired MediaMarkt in Portugal three years ago and signals Darty’s intention to expand its investment operations in Portugal according to the Portuguese competition authority Autoridade da Concorrência.

Darty arrived in Portugal in 2023 bringing 70 years of history in retail behind it and with the promise ‘Give everything to give you the best’ (‘A dar tudo, para dar-te o melhor’) emphasizing trust and proximity to consumers through four pillars: price, choice, service, and sustainability.

The MediaMarkt stores, acquired in 2023 became operated under the Darty brand from October 1, 2025 with an expansion plan for more than 30 stores by 2030 and the creation of 500 jobs.
