There was an increase in the number of properties being refurbished in the second quarter of this year.

The amount of activity in April saw a like-for-like growth of 7.4%, a favorable increase that was revealed in the Order Book Index (Índice da Carteira de Encomendas) which enjoyed a like-for-like variation of 4%.

What it means is that the property rennovation and refurbishment sector in Portugal has showed signs of recovery since the start of the second quarter of the year according to a survey from AICCOPN – The Association of Civil Construction Industries and National Public Works.

“Indeed, in April, the activity level index registered a year-on-year growth of 7.4%, a favourable trajectory that was accompanied by the Order Book Index, whose year-on-year variation was 4.0%,” reads the report published on Monday (June 8).

Regarding contracted production, an indicator that estimates the time horizon of guaranteed activity at a normal execution rate, this stood at 9.6 months, reflecting an increase compared to the previous month, although it remains below the 10.5 months recorded in the same period last year.

The AICCOPN report also highlights that until March 2026, the licensing of rehabilitation works registered a year-on-year decrease of 14.4%. This decline extended to both aspects of the market, translating into a reduction of 12.4% in the residential segment and 17.6% in the non-residential segment.
