Portugal’s Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of Gabriel Bernardino to succeed Gabriela Figueiredo Dias at the helm of the Portuguese stock market and securities watchdog CMVM.

The current president’s mandate ended in June.
Gabriel Bernardino spent 22 years at the head of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority.
After getting the green light from Cresap (Commission for Recruitment and Selection for the Public Administration), parliament also accepted the appointment.
“The Government approved the following appointments for Gabriel Rodrigo Ribeiro Tavares Bernardino as the President of the Board of Directors at the CMVM and Patrícia Alexandra Martinho Correia da Silva Gonçalves to the post of director on the administrative board of the National Communications Authority”, reads a communiqué from the Council of Ministers.
