Sonae invests €112M in Afresh fresh foods management startup

Bright Pixel Capital, the technology investment company that belongs to Portuguese multinational Sonae, announced this week that it had participated in a Series B financing round led by Spark Capital involving €112 million for fresh foods management startup Afresh.

According to Jornal Económico, the investment round also included the participation of Insight Partners and VMG Partners and almost all of its pre-existing investors including Maersk Growth, High Sage and Innovation Endeavours.
With this operation the startups’s total financing stands at €145 million.
“More than anything else, food shapes people’s health and the health of our planet. We founded Afresh with the aim of eliminating food waste and to make nutritious foods more accessible. We are excited to apply this investment to the development of the business and the expansion of our product”, said the co-founder and CEO of Afresh, Matt Schwartz.
